The Ukulele is the perfect first instrument; it gives children the opportunity to develop fundamental musical skills such as pitch, rhythm and pulse whilst also aiding the development of transferable skills such as co-ordination, fine motor movement, memory, muscle memory, determination and confidence, through an age appropriate and manageable instrument.
Not to mention its just super fun!
The Ukulele is small, easy to tune, affordable and simple to use. A good musical foundation with technique taught correctly, will set anyone up for their whole musical life.
We promise instant success with this amazing instrument - in their very first lesson with us, children will learn at least 3 songs! Could you say that about many other instruments?
Students will come out of their first lesson feeling empowered, confident and capable, because this instrument is made for their age and stage.
Whether students then choose to take grades, join a Ukulele group, or move on to other instruments, we will have given them that grounding.
We believe in a holistic approach to music learning; we move, sing, explore, we learn rhythms through clapping games, we listen, we compose and we learn music theory through silly rhymes, pictures & games.
We understand that learning is different for each child; we take the time to get to know our students and cater each lesson to them.
We take a no pressure approach, learning an instrument should not be a chore and students will only move on when they are completely ready.
We believe in seeing learning as a pyramid, children must have a firm grasp of the foundations before moving up.

My 6 year old started ukulele lessons in person with Emily around six months before lockdown happened. He was hooked from the offset. With him being classed as vulnerable, we were worried about the affect his whole life coming to a halt would have on his mental well-being. But, online ukulele lessons have proved a lifeline. Not only have they given us continued structure during lockdown, they’ve provided much needed stimulation and enjoyment for a child who was otherwise resistant to home learning. He has progressed so much over the months we’ve been apart, and I’d argue that he has learned more music theory during lockdown than he would have in normal life, as it has effectively been turned into a game using interactive technology. Emily has great presence over the ether, and her lessons are as engaging and enjoyable online as they were in person. While we miss her terribly, and can’t wait to be reunited, Emily’s online music lessons have brought joy to our family over the past few months, and we’re looking forward to continuing with the enrichment they bring for however many months we might be locked down moving forwards. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Emily if you’re considering music lessons for your child.
My daughter has attended Emily’s ukulele club and has also been having 1:1 ukulele lessons. She absolutely loves both. Emily is a great teacher and builds fab relationships with the children. My daughter has certainly looked forward to her lessons each week during lockdown!
